Success Story: International Hypermarket

A gas leak detection system continuously in operation providing reliable, fast and useful information to help reduce leaks, located them more quickly, identify the areas with the most leaks and provide data for preventive maintenance (avert serious leaks)

Facility

Monitored Systems:

  • 12 cold storage rooms and bakeries
  • 24 shelves and islands
  • 1 machine room
  • 37 transmitters installed

Notable leaks detected:

  • 4 serious (3 already repaired), above a severity threshold (totalling 85.2 kg/year), LN9 repair pending
  • 4 low-gravity (CP7, CP11, CP16, CP12)

Problem

Reduce the centre’s leak ratio and CO2 emissions.

  • Improve energy efficiency by maintaining proper gas level.
  • Incorporate a continuous monitoring system, alerts and data intelligence about refrigerant gas leaks.

Project

AKO proposed a solution for early monitoring of gas leaks at the facility, increasing business profitability and productivity, reducing costs, and boosting safety and environmental-friendliness.

Solution

The infrared gas leak monitor AKOGAS NDIR especially designed to determine the volume of gas in the environment, as early as 1 PPM, and therefore to help drastically reduce facility operating costs. It can be installed in any area of the facility.
Monitoring with AKONET.Cloud, the gas concentration log can be consulted at all times for the environment and for an existing gas leak, in addition to highly-relevant indicators to know WHEN, WHERE AND HOW MUCH gas is leaking, facilitating

Results

Incorporating a log and continuous monitoring system with continuous gas leak alerts resulted in the following:

  • Leak ratio: 6.86%
  • Average leak ratio for the centre: 3.3 PPM
  • Gas savings/year: 50.6 kg
  • Reliability (no false alarms): 100%
